John M. Brannigan Attorney

John is a senior partner at Maher, Brannigan & Heywood, P.C. where he limits his practice to matters relating to real estate taxation.

Mr. Brannigan graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1990. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree while majoring in English and Philosophy. John received his Juris Doctor from DePaul University in 1995.

From 1990-1995, John worked as a real estate tax paralegal and tax consultant at a nationwide firm that concentrated its practice to real estate taxation matters. He remained with the firm after graduation from law school. As an associate attorney, Mr. Brannigan prepared, filed and negotiated real property assessment complaints before the various in-state and out-of-state County Assessor’s Office, Boards of Review and post-payment Review Boards, Courts and Tribunals.

In 1998, John became a partner with Maher & Brannigan, P.C. As a partner, Mr. Brannigan was responsible for the daily operations of the firm and was responsible for the preparation, filing and negotiation of real property assessment complaints before the Cook County Assessor’s Office, Will County Assessor’s levels, Cook County Board of Review, Will County Board of Review, Circuit Court of Cook County and State of Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board.

In 2013, the firm became Maher, Brannigan & Heywood, P.C., when Mr. Daniel J. Heywood joined the firm as a partner.

John is licensed to practice law in Illinois (May, 1996), Arizona (October, 1995 – presently inactive) and Washington, D.C. (November, 1996 – presently inactive). John is a frequent career-day speaker in the Orland Park grade school district and has been a volunteer coach for over 20 teams in the Orland Youth Association, Illinois Sparks Baseball Club and Lincoln-Way Blue Demons.

Mr. Brannigan grew up in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood and in Wilmette, Illinois, where he graduated from Loyola Academy. John now resides with his family in Orland Park, Illinois.
